Local weather

This feature on my blog is helpful in planning beach portraits...it is located at the bottom of the page on the blog. If it happens to switch back to New York weather when you are viewing (it keeps doing that), just click on edit and type in 32541 for the Destin zip code. Keep in mind that just because it might be raining during the day, I have found that over the course of years shooting around sunset, it usually quits raining by late afternoon. In the case of bad weather, we can reschedule your session. In case there is no way to reschedule because the weather does not cooperate, you will be entitled to a full refund.

The Phillips Family

Looking forward to seeing Natalie and Rylee and mommy and daddy again....and, for her first appearance on Destin beaches----Madilyn! She was in mommy's tummy at the time of the shoot. This precious family are like many of our clients who come back every year or two and want more beach portraits, and I am always so happy to see them again, and see how the children have grown! Dad is a member of the military and we APPRECIATE him! Not long after their family session this year he is off to Iraq. We wish them the best and pray for his safe return. Check back in a couple of months to see how the girls have changed!

Non-walking bird?

Just a note of info (that I didn't know)...
At a recent photo shoot, we saw a bird at the edge of the water...We all felt badly that the bird seemed unable to fly and must be hurt.
Well, me, being the animal lover that you all know I am...I placed a towel over the bird and took it to PAWS, the local animal rescue. I had to make sure I was away from the pointed beak!!
I was concerned, so I called the next day to find that the bird was picked up from PAWS and taken to the Emerald Coast Wildlife Rescue in Destin.
I soon found out that the bird was a common Loon...and was told that they cannot stand, and have to be several miles out to be able to fly again! So, if you see a bird like this on the beach, just know that most likely it is not injured, and that it will soon be flying again!

Tennis anyone?

A local mom asked me to photograph her son's recent tennis match and that of a friend. They both play for Destin Middle School...

Marley update

Okay, since many have asked...here is the Marley update!
After we had her about a week, I took her to the vet...we now know why she is so skinny...she had hookworms and heartworms...the later could have been prevented if her former owner had given her heartguard every month...So, the vet said we could treat her over the next three months (at a very expensive cost!) But, we love her, so we will do whatever it takes.
Well, now my jogging partner/biking partner could no longer run for the next three months.
I know how much she likes to go with me so I called the Goodwill store in Destin last Sunday and asked if they had a used bike trailer (they cost about $230 new). They had just gotten one in and I made my way over there and bought it for $29.99!
Once she got used to it, she loves going with me for a ride...the only problem is, she is so excited that she barks the whole five miles I ride with her...oh well, at least she is able to do that! I find that people are amused when they see me riding with her in the trailer, when they expect to see a baby!!

Let's go fly a kite!

Lauren and Easton are a couple of youngsters from Tennessee that I first met last year...their mom, Ashley, and their Grammy, always come along for the shoot and we have so much fun.

Jacksonville dolls!

Some past clients asked me to travel to Jacksonville to photograph their daughters in an environmental session. They chose their local landscape rather than the beach! Both girls are active in their private school: Niki is a 16-year-old straight A student who already is 5'9" and could be a model (one of her fav shows is America's Next Top Model). She is an outstanding basketball and softball athlete. Brooke is 12 and enjoys dressing up-complete with her makeup. Mom and dad better watch out! She looks more like 16. She's a cutie, and of course constantly networking with friends via texting or Facebook!
